Mr. Jose H. Luyanda, Sr. is an active immigration attorney with our office. From 2007 to the end of 2014, he worked for the Department of Homeland Security USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) as an Asylum Officer, at the Houston Asylum Office in Houston, Texas and subsequently at the Miami Asylum Office in Miami, Florida. During that time, Mr. Luyanda adjudicated asylum claims and conducted credible and reasonable fear cases as well as refugee processing in Havana, Cuba, Key West Florida, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Prior to working as an Asylum Officer for USCIS Mr. Luyanda managed his own private practice. He worked landlord-tenant cases, family law cases and immigration cases as part of his practice. Mr. Luyanda is licensed to practice law in Florida and Texas.
Mr. Luyanda is a member of the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, a past member of Greater Dallas Texas Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Texas Hispanic Bar Association, and past President of Fundacion Boricua in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Luyanda has an Associate degree in Applied Computer Science, from the University of Puerto Rico; a Bachelor of Arts, with a Mayor in Business Management from Inter American University of Puerto Rico; and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law.
